I often joke that if I (and the other 7 billion humans on the planet) spent one day being mindful—the world would change overnight.

Certainly it’s those quiet, shared moments of stillness during coaching sessions which often spark a profound turning point on the path to wellbeing for many of my clients.

The wisdom of learning to rest your awareness in the present moment has been around for millennia.  And thanks to science we now know that adding as little as 10 minutes of meditation to your day over 8 weeks can change your brain for the better.

As a result, inspiring resources to help you bring calm, beauty and focus back into your life are everywhere.

The main hurdle is knowing how to get started. Here’s how:

  • You can find some ridiculously easy suggestions throughout my blog (or email me for my handout on Living Mindfully: be more present everyday.)
  • If it’s face to face training you’re after, try Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) 8 week courses styled off the work of leading American medical practitioner and mindfulness expert Jon Kabat Zinn (just google in your capital city).
  • In Canberra, try Simply Mindful. The Managing the Madness course with Katrina Berg Howard also comes highly recommended.
  • There’s a ton of books to choose from. Eckhart Tolle’s Power of Now has become a modern classic. For a fresh approach Michael Acton Smith (OBE)’s Calm: Calm the mind change the world is a treasure trove of easy-to-incorporate ideas.
  • Online you can join thousands of others for Mindful in May, a month of mindfulness with tips from the experts. Participants raise money for water projects around the world.
