About this Event

2020 has been a year that has demanded resilience. Amid a global pandemic, bushfires, hailstorms with ongoing uncertainty what tools can we use to build our resilience. The workshop includes yoga, meditation, and personal reflection and is non-secular and scientifically based.

We all need durable wellbeing, mental health and resilience supports to build individual and community resilience during these times. Together in this workshop we will be exploring how you can use the STREAM model to enhance your daily wellbeing—the good news is by purchasing a ticket you are half way there! The STREAM resilience components (developed by Flinders University) we will be exploring are: 

S is for Social networking– keep in touch with your local community by joining us at the Kaleen pine forest for a socially distanced face to face 1.5 hour workshop.

T is for Time out -take a break from home and loved ones and enjoy the gorgeous Kaleen pine forest. Learn breathing and mindfulness stress reduction techniques. 

R is for Relaxation and yoga. Learn how muscular relaxation exercises, and yoga are effective at reducing stress and building resilience.

E is for Exercise and entertainment. Enjoy a 30 minute is a vinyasa flow class, to get your blood moving and let off a little steam at the same time as having a laugh. 

A is for Alternative thinking. Learn how small changes in everyday thinking can have big impacts on your mood and outlook. 

M is for being Mindful of others. Explore how meditation can expand consciousness to be able to embrace loving kindness to ourselves and others.

About your hosts: Allie Mokany (Yoga HQ) is a Canberra-based yoga, meditation teacher and Thai yoga masseuse. She has a doctorate in ecology and resilience from ANU. Allie grew up in the bush surrounded by nature and uses natural settings to develop a healing practice with others through movement. 

Joan Cornish (Inner Nature) is a Wellbeing and Mindfulness Coach who finds time spent in nature to be the greatest healer. She uses a blend of mindfulness, coaching, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), to help others embrace life with greater self-awareness and joy. A long-time meditator, Joan knows firsthand how practising mindfulness is one of the most important things we can do to free ourselves from worry, judgement, self-criticism and struggle. She also offers deeply relaxing Hawaiian Kahuna bodywork.

Venue: Kaleen Pine Forest is a glorious space to explore your resilience horizons with your local community in a safe outdoor area. arrangements will be made if the weather is not on our side. We meet at the children’s playground (access via Warrego cct)

Social distancing reminder: All participants must pre-purchase tickets, there are no drop-ins on the day, and numbers are strictly limited to keep you safe. All activities will take place outside, and 1.5m space will be observed between all participants. Please bring all your own equipment, mat, blanket, cushion, writing implements, water bottle. If you are ill, please stay away- your pass will be credited for a forest yoga pass, or you may give it to a friend. Online streaming will be arranged if Covid-19 advice changes.
